1. Approval of the minutes for September 14, 2021:  The minutes were approved by unanimous consent.

2.  Information item: The chair encourages all present to attnd October 20 12:30 p.m. full faculty meeting, either in MTCC auditorium or via Zoom. The meeting is regarding the status and voting rights of teaching faculty.

3.  Information item: “P” designation awareness.  The chair notes that this designation is for online courses that require students to be present for at least one in-person exam.

4.  Dual Degree and Double-Major Policy Proposal (Menhart)

b. Supplemental Document

This proposal will supersede/sidestep the Faculty Handbook’s Appendix P, which requires dual-degree and double-major program to follow the standard faculty approval process for new programs. This proposal will be voted on at the next UGSC meeting.

5.  Two CHEM programs are going to hiatus (Leight):

a. BS in Computational Chemisty and Biochemistry

b. BS in Bioanalytical Chemsity

Approved by unanimous consent.  

6.  BIO/FDSN sequence for the Core Curriculum science requirement (Spink/Twombly). Bulletin language:

         Two sequential natural science or enginering courses in a single field.

i.               CHEM 124 with MS 201 satisfies this requirement

ii.             BIOL (N) with FDSN (N) satisfies this requirement.

Approved by unanimous consent.

         7. Major/Minor Report Discussion Continued (Trygstad).

That report is here. The five-year rotation at the end of the document will be put into action this year unless academic units object. Reps should take this back to their units. Also, going forward, all degree program curriculum changes coming to the UGSC must show the currently proposed change/s plus any and all changes made in the preceding two academic years.

         8. Information item: IAI status update will be delivered at the next UGSC meeting (Spink).
