1. Approval of the minutes for September 22, 2020

The minutes for September 8, 2020 were approved 11-0.

2.  Report from UFC meeting (Spink).

Town hall meetings to be scheduled to discuss (a) IAI Policy Porposal and (b) Student Survey Proposal.

3.  Requested information from Emmons (Assessment) has been provided and that document is here.

(Excel document is titled “Course Evaluation Redesign Work_2020-09-03.xlsx”)

4.  IAI Working Group Proposal: Curriculum change (Spink, Pulliam). This item was postponed from the 9/22 meeting in order to get appropriate Bulletin language drafted. The bulletin language adopted and approved by a vote of 14-0 is:

The remaining course in this module must be selected from any Humanities (H) course, any Social or Behavioral Science (S) course, or any COM course except COM 101 or COM 111.

5.  Add/Drop date discussion (Lagunas).

The Registrar's Office is considering changing the Add/Drop deadline to either the second Tuesday of the term with late registration through the following Friday, or the second Wednesday of the term with late registration until the following Monday. They are asking for UGSC input. The committee was generally supportive, with a slight preference for the first option, but asked Lagunas to ensure that upper admin is also supportive.

6.  Removal of requirement for advisor and department permits for undergraduates to register for online and hybrid courses for the Spring and Summer 2021 terms. (Ireland)

The UGSC votes 14-0 in favor, as a recommendation to the administration.

7.  Discussion: awarding credit for foreign language placement/proficiency exams.

There is general agreement on the committee that credit for upper-level humanities (H) courses not be granted based on placement exams. Pulliam tasked with coming up with language for a policy vote in the next meeting.
