The minutes of the Oct 2010 meeting are approved by unanimous consent.

 

J. Twombly draws attention to the curricula for the BS in Business Administration and the BS in Business and Applied Science that were presented 10/12/10. The UGSC views these changes as an information item, not requiring a formal vote.

 

It was moved and seconded 10/12/10 that

The UGSC endorses the creation of a BS in Sociology, with the curriculum presented by the Department of Social Sciences.

The motion passes 14-0.

 

It was moved and seconded 10/12/10 that

The UGSC endorses the creation of a BS in Social Siences, with the curriculum presented by the Department of Social Sciences.

The motion passes 14-0.

 

It was moved and seconded 10/12/10 that

         The UGSC endorses a concentration in secondary education within the BS in Physics.

The motion is amended that

The UGSC endorses the creation of a BS in Physics Education, with the curriculum presented by the Department of BCPS.

The motion masses 15-0.

 

On 10/12/10, M. Gosz presented a syllabus for a pilot version of a IPRO-379 “Interpretation by Design.” It is moved and seconded that

         The sections of IPRO-397 offered in Spring-2011 count for IPRO general education.

The motion passes 16-0.

 

L. Hosman presents modifications to the minors in lkjflkjlkj The UGSC views these modifications as an information item, not requiring a formal vote.

 

On behalf of the Department of BCPS, K. Spink proposes two new degrees. It is moved and seconded that

The UGSC endorses the creation of a degree in Engineering Physics, with the curriculum presented by BCPS.

On policy of the UGSC, a vote is deferred to the next meeting of the UGSC.

It is moved and seconded that

The UGSC endorses the creation of a degree in Biology with a Secondary Education Teaching Certificate, with the curriculum presented by BCPS.

J. Snapper informs the UGSC of motions before the University Faculty Council that modify the procedure for appointment of a chair to the UGSC and that change the formula for determining unit membership to the UGSC. It is moved and seconded that

The UGSC endorses the motion before the UFC for changes in the formula for unit membership of the UGSC.

The motion passes 15-0.

 

R. Trygstad presents a plan to renumber advanced courses in the ITM degree curriculum, in order to put the courses in a more coherent list. The UGSC views the renumbering as an information item, not requiring a formal vote.

 

M. Bauer distributes notes on a new course option for the CS general education option. The UGSC views this as an information item, not requiring a formal vote.
