The Chair notes that there is a quorum for business. Convene 12:45 PM. Adjourn 1:45 PM.
The minutes of the Nov 10 meeting are accepted with corrections by unanimous consent.
Dr Twombly asks that UGSC to defer consideration of changes to the Business Administration program.
It was moved and seconded 11/10/09 that degree program in Mechanical Engineering be modified to
Revamp the graphics component
Revamp the lab requirements, substituting stand-alone labs for labs attached to lecture courses.
Reduce the required minimum credit hours by three credits from 130 to 127 credits.

The motion passes (13/0).
On behalf of MMAE, Dr. Ruiz asks the UGSC to endorse the following change to the BS in Material Science and Engineering:
Replace EG-105 (2 credits) with a new course MMAE-232 (3 credits).
MMAE-232 ìDesign for Innovationî includes a study of drafting, and additional topics.
The change adds one credit hour to the requirement for graduation.
The change is moved and seconded. The motion passes (13/0).
It was moved and seconded 11/10/09 that the Bachelor of Information Technology and Management be modified to:
Require ITM-434 (Human/Computer Interaction), presently taught only at the graduate level.
Reduce the free electives by three credits, in order to make room for ITM-434
Require Math-151 or 148/149 or 120/121 for students matriculating as 1st-year students.
Require a minimum of at least eight hours of mathematics (counting Bus-211, statistics).
Require Bus-211 for students matriculating with fewer than 60 credit hours.
Require Bus-211 for transfer students matriculating with fewer than 5 credits of mathematics.
The motion passes (12/1).
Dr. Perez-Luna asks the UGSC to defer consideration of proposed changes to the Chem-E degree program.
Dr. Ishaque Khan, Assoc. Dean of College of Science and Letters, informs the UGSC that the Chairs of the CSL units believe it is inappropriate for students declare minors offered by a unit without the explicit permission of the unit. It is moved and seconded that
A student declaring a minor needs approval from the unit offering the minor.
On UGSC policy, a vote is deferred until the next meeting of the UGSC.
