Convene 12:50 PM. Adjourn 1:40 PM.

The Chair notes that there is a quorum for business.

The UGSC approves the minutes of the meeting of Feb 12, 2007, by unanimous consent.

Is it moved and seconded that:

Students in degree programs with sufficient free electives and minor coursework to allow a second major, without satisfying IIT's 15-additional-hour requirement for dual degrees, be allowed to earn a second major within a single degree.

The motion passes by unanimous consent.

Dr. R. Wang informs the UGSC of curriculum revisions to the BS in Chemistry, including name changes for several courses, revisions to the prerequisites for several courses, a change in the pattern of course offerings, and the unification of a two-course offering into a single course. It is the consensus of the UGSC that (since these are internal changes within an established degree program to courses that are not required by other IIT degree programs) the revisions do not demand a vote endorsement.

It is moved and seconded that

The BS degree in Applied Mathematics include specializations in Mathematical Finance, in Math Education, in Applied Analysis, in Computational Mathematics, in Discrete Applied Mathematics, and in Stochastics. Each specialization consists of 3 or 4 regularly taught courses (9 or 12 credits) above the core requirements.

The motion passes by unanimous consent.

Dr. Twombly informs the UGSC of revisions within the undergraduate degree offered by the Stuart School of Business. The introduction to the professions course will be increased from two credits to three credits, with adjustments elsewhere in the program to preserve the over-all credit requirements. It is the consensus of the UGSC that (since these are internal changes within an established degree program to courses that are not required by other IIT degree programs) the revisions do not demand a vote endorsement.

Dr. Twombly informs the UGSC that the Stuart School of Business would like to change the name of the minor in "Management" to a minor in "Business." It is the consensus of the UGSC that this is a minor change that does not require a vote endorsement.

Mr. Trygstad distributed the formal statement (as sent to the Provost) of the composition and duties of the Information Technology and Management Degrees Program Management Committee. Mr. Trygstad will present the statement to the Graduate Studies Committee and to the University Faculty Council.

On behalf of the committee investigating use of on-line courses by IIT main-campus students, Mr. Zachocki informs the UGSC of a study into which IIT-peer institutions offer on-line course options.

Dr. O'Leary reminds the UGSC of the need to nominate candidates for UGSC Chair for the upcoming academic year. He asks the UGSC to be ready to nominate candidates at the April meeting.

Mr. Pulliam, Mr. Welter, and Mr. Twombly inform the UGSC of problems placing Visiting Students in courses, with proper assessment of prerequisites. They will work with Prof. Bauer in the office of the Assoc. Provost to resolve these difficulties.

J. Snapper, Secretary to the UGSC
