Chair notes there is a quorum at 12:53 p.m. Minutes of 3/13/2012 meeting are approved unanimously.

2) Old business

2a) IPRO subcommittee report tabled until next meeting (Snyder).

3) New business

3a) Discussion of Basic Writing Proficiency requirement in general education. Pass on BWP was pre-req on all C-courses, including in the major as well as general education. Over the years Deans and Chairs have had this pre-req removed from major C-courses. Issue is passed to gen ed subcommittee for study and tabled (Pulliam).

3b) Review of changes to the BS in Physics to make it compatible with MS in Physics for a co-terminal degree. Changes to the BS were approved unanimously. CSL Assoc. Dean Bauer will work with PHYS to ensure that the shared courses with the BS and MS are properly attributed.

Consideration of the co-terminal BS/MS is tabled until the next meeting.

3d) Foreign language courses and how they are counted in Gen Ed and elsewhere. Ideas are solicited on fitting a minor or certification into jammed curricula. Gen Ed subcommittee will also review the issue (Pulliam).

3c) Nominees for UGSC chair for 2012-2013 term: Matt Bauer (CS).
