The committee includes Nippert-Eng (Soc Sci), Flanagan (Hum), Kallend (MMEA), Gosz (Undergraduate Affairs). The Committee seeks additional members, including members from psychology and architecture.

As requested by the Faculty Council, the UGSC continues to review the IPRO program. The UGSC forms a subcommittee that will report on the process for faculty oversight. The committee includes M. Gosz (Undergrad. Affairs), P. Arce (SGA), and P. Ruiz (MMAE).

On behalf of the University Faculty Council, the chair asks the UGSC to suggest candidates to act as UGSC chair in 2011-12. The UGSC suggests: J. Snapper, J. Kallend, and M. Bauer. The UGSC notes that: J. Snapper may not be available if becomes chair of the UFC. J. Kallend may not be available if he continues as acting chair of ChBE. M. Bauer is category II faculty and may not be available if the faculty fails to approve the proposed changes to the handbook statement on the UGSC.

There is discussion of the HSS general education requirement, which was modified (2/8/11) to resolve issues in the availability of classes. It is moved and seconded that the modification be amended to say

The (S) component of the HSS general education program includes at least

            one upper-division course.

On UGSC policy a vote is deferred until the next meeting of the UGSC.

The UGSC notes that the university has instituted the NA (not-attending) grade without UGSC review. The registrar discussed the need for this grade, and showed how it differs from a failing grade or a withdrawal. The registrar notes that the information that accompanies the assignment of the NA grade is required for accounting issues relating to federal support for students.

G. Pulliam informs the UGSC of a modification to the requirements in the BS Professional and Technical Communications. The modification substitutes new courses for three upper division courses within the discipline. The UGSC views the modification as an information item, not requiring a formal vote.
