Mr. Jerry Doyle, Assoc. V.P.
for Undergraduate Admissions, reports on the status of undergraduate
recruitment. There have been significant increases in the
sizes of recent matriculating class, with about 520 entering first year
students and 180 new transfer students in Fall-07. Given expected
enrollments of 535 First-year student and 180 Transfers over the next 3 years,
we project the following overall enrollment of full-time students as follows: Fall-08 ~ 2,500; Fall-09 ~ 2,600;
Fall-10 ~ 2,750, up from 2,324 in the present semester. The UGSC also discussed procedures for
faculty review of applications from borderline admits.
Dr. Bauer asks the UGSC to
review the rules concerning grade changes and incomplete grades. The UGSC creates a subcommittee
to review those rules and, if necessary, proposed new rules: P. Zachocki (chair), J. Twombly, R.
Trygstad, S. Sennott, and M. Bauer.
The UGSC discussed the design
of the new 'smart' classrooms.
The UGSC notes that the classrooms are used for both graduate and
undergraduate instruction. The UGSC instructs its secretary to suggest to the
Faculty Council that it create a committee of faculty to work with facilities
on the design for the classrooms. The UGSC offers to suggest faculty to serve on
that committee.
The UGSC welcomes Dr. Amy
Stolley, who takes responsibility for directing the Communications across the
Curriculum program.
The fourth agenda item, a proposed
change to the rules concerning the concurrent completion of two undergraduate
degrees, is postponed to the next meeting.
