RE: Review of C-courses in the Physics Department (PHYS)
DATE: November 13, 2018
Over the Summer and Fall 2018 terms, the CAC conducted a review of C-courses taught by the Physics Department in order to ensure they were in compliance with the UGSC-established criteria for such courses. The UGSC mandates that a committee be established to do this, made up of the CAC director (Pulliam), a faculty member from PHYS (Sally Laurent-Muehleisen) appointed by that department’s chair, and a faculty member from outside of PHYS (Candance Wark of MMAE) nominated by the CAC director and approved by the PHYS chair.
The committee began work in June, and over the summer and early fall reviewed and approved the C-designation for the following courses, some of which required additional clarification or revisions to demonstrate that they met UGSC criteria:
PHYS 100
PHYS 123
PHYS 221
PHYS 223
PHYS 240
PHYS 300
PHYS 427
PHYS has elected to remove the C-designation from the following courses:
PHYS 428
PHYS 440
PHYS 491
PHYS 497
All decisions were unanimous among the three committee members. The complete documentation for these decisions and the process used to reach them are on file in the office of the CAC director (SH 213), as required by the UGSC.
The CAC and the review committee submit the results of this review to the UGSC for its formal acceptance, and ask that (if accepted) these results be forwarded to the registrar for the action necessary to put them into effect. They should also be forwarded to the Faculty Council as an informational item.
