The Social Sciences Department requests that the BS degrees in Political Science and Sociology be put on “hiatus status.” Department faculty voted to eliminate both degree programs in 2015 and have not accepted new, incoming students to either major since then. Currently, there are two continuing students expected to complete their Political Science degrees no later than the end of next academic year, and there have been no Sociology majors since 2016.
The decision was made due to the lack of capacity within the department to deliver significant portions of these degree programs and the need to focus on programs that leverage the interdisciplinary nature and faculty expertise of the department: Social Economic Development Policy, Global Studies, and Science, Technology and Society.
